Confirmation Service Hours

“God has no hands and feet but ours”

The goal of the service hours and service project is for the Confirmation Candidate to experience the works of mercy and to conform oneself more to life of Christ in service to others.

Students are encouraged to contact appropriate programs, agencies, services, etc. and set up times to work there. If you need assistance in finding agencies, call Jim Lavin, Director of Confirmation Preparation, at 913-492-7318.  Students are allowed to work with friends as this shows “Christian Fellowship,” however we do not want groups of more than three (3) at a time working together as this should be a time of service rather than socialization.

Parents and Sponsors are also encouraged to participate in the service hours with the candidate as this shows that service to others is a lifetime commitment for Christians.

When completing service hours, each candidate should document their work with photographs, and the adult supervisor fill out the Service Hours Completion Form.

Students are asked to complete a total of 25 service hours prior to the Service Fair (date TBA).

The service hours will be divided into 3 categories: Community (Religious or other non-profit organization), Church (Holy Spirit Catholic Church), and Home.

Community – 10 hours

This would be contacting a not for profit organization and scheduling a time to come in to volunteer. Examples would be a food kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, Uplift, Shalom House, etc. Be creative and try to find something unique and interesting to you.

Church – 10 Hours Needed

This would be contacting an area of the church where you would like to volunteer time. The candidate is encouraged to find a new area in the Church to help with rather than what they are already accustomed to doing.

Home – 5 Hours Needed

Again this should be a service that the candidate doesn’t already do on a consistent basis. Step outside the box and find something new that you can volunteer to help with at home.

These WILL BE COLLECTED. The entire Parish will be invited to see these boards, and you should be present to answer questions from the parishioners.
